Marseille hosts regular festivals: "Sacred Music" in April, "Music and Culture of Diasporas" in August, "Dance M" (contemporary dance festival) in September, "Southern Fiesta" in October, "Bazaar" (hypermarket of contemporary art) in November. In mid-July and mid-August, the Marseillais organize traditional competitions on the water, held here for centuries. Knights armed with swords and shields and rowers are placed on boats. The knights fight to the cheers of the public.
